Lay’s new Olympics-inspired potato chip flavors hit store shelves Monday. The company is launching four international flavors: Chinese Szechuan Chicken, Brazilian Picanha, Wavy Greek Tzatziki and Kettle Cooked Indian Tikka Masala.
The company wanted to add to its lineup spices and seasonings not found in the United States.
According to VP of Marketing for Frito-Lay Jeannie Cho, the idea behind the release is to get Americans excited about the upcoming Summer Olympics and wanting to travel abroad.
“This summer, all eyes will be on the global stage, reminding us of our desire to travel and explore the world. While most of us can’t just hop on a plane, all of us can travel through our taste buds. The ‘Passport to Flavor’ program invites consumers to try four delicious new global flavors, while also giving them a chance to win a variety a different trips and travel-related prizes.”
Each bag of chips will be marked with a special code, which consumers can enter on Lay’s website to earn”miles” and “stamps,” which they can then turn into travel equipment, actual trips and other “travel-themed prizes.”
