It's that impossibly difficult, irresistibly fun-to-watch game show that featured kids tackling physical and mental tests with the chance to enter Olmec’s temple.
What was in the temple? A historical artifact that one team of two had to retrieve from the obstacle course of trick rooms within. That is, of course, if they could make it past the challenges that came before - like The Moat, The Steps of Knowledge, and The Temple Games.
But, making it though the temple rooms wasn’t easy, at all. Recently, our friends at Dose.com pointed out just how impossible it was. Contestants who made it to the final Temple Run round only had 3 minutes to solve the puzzles contained in each room, all the while avoiding the mysterious Mayan temple guards who could take you out of the game. And can we mention how creepy it was for half-clothed men to pop out of hidden places and take children hostage? No, not creepy at all.
According to Dose, only 32 teams out of the 120 that competed over the game show’s lifespan made it through the temple. That’s only 26.7 percent!
If a team did manage to conquer The Throne Room, King’s Store Room, Observatory, or The Shrine of the Silver Monkey the prizes they walked away with were usually decent (like a cruise or space camp), but if you were eliminated you got something lame, like chocolate milk.
Despite all this the show was incredibly fun to watch and very popular. It was so popular that Nickelodeon has announced a TV-movie is in production and set to air Fall of this year. The movie promises some of the same memorable moments from the game show, like that stupid silver monkey!
Kirk Fogg will reprise his role as, well.. himself and, of course, Olmec will make his triumphant return as the talking stone head temple gatekeeper dude. So, throw on your Red Jaguar, Blue Barracuda, Green Monkey, Orange Iguana, Purple Parrot, or Silver Snake T-shirt and try to make it through another Legend of the Hidden Temple!
