Michelle and Barack Obama may be on their way out of the White House, but their love story is coming to a movie theater near you.  Eye Opener's Laila Muhammad sat down with the stars of the new movie all about the Obama's first date, Southside With You. Tika Sumpter, who plays Michelle, and Parker Sawyers, who plays Barack, talk about what is was like portraying the first couple, and what drew them to the project in the first place.

Parker says, "The idea is so original.  [Seeing] public figures, and going back to their first date.  It's an interesting take on their relationship".  Another thing that's interesting, is how well both actors portrayed such public and well known figures.  Parker even exaggerated his performance of Obama when talking to Laila interview saying,"don't get it twisted".  While his co-star replied, "don't say that again", his tone and impersonation of the President were dead on.  Parker also does a mean Tim Gunn, from project runway, but you'll have to watch the interview for that.

In any case what both actors accomplish in the film, as Tika says is, "embodying the essence of who [Michelle and Barack] are".  What's more, both actors really enjoyed the scenes in which the larger than life American icons were humanized.  They were able to show moments where Michelle says she doesn't like pie, or just simply puts on make-up and gets ready for her date.  Also scenes where Barack breaks out a cigarette, or when the two have a deep conversation about him forgiving his father.

Laila really enjoyed the film, but she noticed some things have changed for Tika since filming.  She's now pregnant and leave it to our EO host to suggest she name the baby, "Laila".  Turns out, "Laila" was actually the name of the first character Tika ever played in One Life to Live.  And while we had to ask, Tika wouldn't disclose who the baby's father was, or any more details.

Southside With You hits theaters August 26th.
