It has been on the cover of the tabloids and on and off in the news for two decades--the mysterious and unsolved murder of 6-year-old beauty pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey.
Intrigue still surrounds the case since Ramsey’s body was discovered in the basement of her Boulder, Colorado home the morning after Christmas in 1996. Autopsy reports say she was strangled and had severe head trauma.
JonBenet’s parents, Patsy and John, were the top suspects for a long time until being exonerated in 2008 with new DNA evidence. Their other son, Burke Ramsey, was cleared of any connections to her death in 1999.
20 years later, there seems to be another wave of interest. Several new true crime series are coming out in coming months that delve back into the evidence.
A&E aired a special this week, "The Killing of JonBenet: The Truth Uncovered," which featured an interview with Burke while the investigation was going on. We also learned new info that some investigators think a stun gun may have been used during her death.
Beginning September 12, her brother will be on with Dr. Phil for a three-part series. He’s never been interviewed by the media about the case and is a notoriously private person.
Finally, you will want to check out CBS’s docuseries "The Case Of: JonBenet Ramsey" starting September 18. The series will bring together investigators that worked the case, new witnesses, and interviews. They even rebuilt the Ramsey house in order to recreate that fateful night.
If you are intrigued by the case, a fan of true crime docs like Netflix’s "Making a Murderer," or any of the recent OJ Simpson shows, be sure to check out these new specials.
