A popular YouTube vlogger and internet personality says he was kicked off a Delta Airlines flight Wednesday morning for speaking Arabic.
Adam Saleh was on board Delta Flight 1 bound from London to New York, when he said he was escorted off the plane for speaking “a word in a different language.”
Saleh’s claims about the alleged incident were captured on a video uploaded to his Twitter page. In the video, Saleh–who has more than 1.6 million subscribers on his YouTube channel–described getting emotional saying he was “about to cry.” Another passenger empathized saying “that is so upsetting,” while others waved and said “goodbye.”
However, the man making the claims is no stranger to internet controversy. Mediaite reports Saleh once admitted that a viral video he made in 2014 titled “RACIAL PROFILING EXPERIMENT!” was actually a hoax.
Saleh own’s YouTube channel is filled with a slough of prank videos with titles like “HICKEY PRANK ON MUSLIM DAD IN RAMADAN!” and “PULLING HIJAB OFF EXPERIMENT!”
Delta released a statement about the incident, saying it takes allegations of discrimination “very seriously.”
“Two customers were removed from this flight and later rebooked after a disturbance in the cabin resulted in more than 20 customers expressing their discomfort,” the statement read. “We’re conducting a full review to understand what transpired. We are taking allegations of discrimination very seriously; our culture requires treating others with respect.”
Later it appeared Saleh was allowed on a flight headed to New York, but he wasn’t backing down from his claims. “UPDATE: were taking off right now and heading to our lawyer once in NYC,” tweeted Saleh.
This is a developing story. More details to come.
