The New Year’s holiday was memorable for Holly and Brandon Shay of Arizona.
Their twin sons were born minutes apart, but in two separate years.
“As it was happening we were like, ‘oh.’ We had a little foreshadowing this could happen and it did,” Brandon said.
Sawyer Matthew Shay was born at 11:51 p.m. New Year’s Eve.
“Everett was a little bit more stubborn so he wasn’t born until 12:01 a.m.,” Brandon said.
“These babies were not born by C-section and they were not induced,” hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Ruble said. “As a mother of twins myself, I was so excited to meet these beautiful healthy new babies!”
“I got to cut the cord. That was awesome,” Brandon remarked.
Holly said she was fortunate that she was able to carry for as long as she did.
“They are going to be amazing. They already are. They’ve already left their mark on this world,” the new mother told azfamily.com.
The Shays have two other children, a 4-year-old and a 13-year-old– both girls.
