Tech Trends to Watch for in 2017

Whether it's hoverboards, 3D movies, or the Zune, every year people find a handful of gadgets and tech fads to obsess over. Except the Microsoft Zune, we were kidding about that one. No one remembers the Zune.

Thanks to Mashable, here are some new tech fixtures you should be on the lookout for in 2017.

Virtual Reality

Even though VR has been around since the Lawnmower Man and Virtual Boy days of the 90s, it really came into its own in 2016 thanks to Playstation VR, the Samsung Gear VR, and even the cardboard cutout headsets from Google. However, expect VR to explode in adoption in 2017 thanks to more people realizing they can use their amazing new phones to power this tech.

While we're talking about VR, we should mention Augmented Reality, where the world around you becomes interactive with computer-generated elements. From games, to computing, to silly selfies, this tech will grow in 2017, again, thanks to phones and tablets.

New types of screens

Also a big deal in 2017 will be new screens. Because phone screens that can withstand a 1000-degree knife isn't good enough, Samsung has been working on bendable screens for phones, making sure there's almost no way you can break it.

Even though it might look like something out of a video game, exoskeletons are going to be big in 2017. No matter if they're being used for physical therapy or aiding soldiers on the battlefield, advanced robotics are going to make movies like "The Edge of Tomorrow" a reality. Except for the fighting aliens part. We hope...

Self driving cars have been with us for a few years with Tesla's autopilot now in 70,000 cars. As long as the safety record keeps up, expect people to become increasingly more comfortable with letting a computer drive them around.
