Scarlett Johansson said in a recent interview with Playboy magazine she believes monogamy isn’t natural, and people shouldn’t just have a relationship with just one person at a time.
The actress told the magazine, “I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it’s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing. I don’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it’s work. It’s a lot of work. And the fact that it is such work for so many people—for everyone—the fact of that proves that it is not a natural thing.”
Johansson has been married twice—first to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 – 2011, and then to Romain Dauriac from 2014 to January of 2017.
“Being married is different than not being married, and anybody who tells you that it’s the same is lying,” Johansson said. “It changes things. I have friends who were together for 10 years and then decided to get married, and I’ll ask them on their wedding day or right after if it’s different, and it always is. It is. It’s a beautiful responsibility, but it’s a responsibility.”
Johansson told Playboy that, while she respects monogamous relationships, she just feels it isn’t natural for her. “I think it definitely goes against some instinct to look beyond,” she said.
Sex expert Dr. Kat Smith agrees. In a live interview Monday morning on Eye Opener, Dr. Smith said, “I believe that we are sexual beings. And your sexual energy is your most powerful energy that you have.
“And besides, human males are polygamists—which means they will mate with several women. [In prehistoric times] that was to keep the species going, but we don’t have to do that anymore.”
